Derek Horsey
The finals of the 2018 Derek Horsey Competition were held today at Marple Golf Club on Wednesday 26th September.
Shrigley Hall Ken Harrison Duckinfield
Alan Pengelly & Alan Smith (on behalf of Bill Wheeler) Martin Brennan & Martin Lewis
After a warm welcome from Walter Derry, Chairman of Marple Golf Club, the Teams started the day by agreeing to share the monies equally between their respective Charities. Then, on another beautiful day for golf, it was nip and tuck for the first 6 holes. The Shrigley Hall pair then had a purple patch to be 2 up at the turn. A lead that Dukinfield couldn't get back and Shrigley Hall finally ran out winners 3&2. The Marple course was in fine condition and the subtle slopes on the greens proved extremely tricky to both teams.
Ken Harrison, representing Bill Wheeler, presented the Trophy and pointed out that over £2,300 had been collected this year for North West Charities. (Since 1994 when the competition started, nearly £44k has been raised.) Ken noted the excellent spirit that the match had been played in and thanked both teams.
The winning team: Alan Smith and Club Captain Alan Pengelly from Shrigley Hall.

Derek Horsey Competition
After Shrigley Hall beat Houldsworth 2Up, and Dukinfield beat Disley on the 21st Hole,
Shrigley Hall will play Dukinfield in The Final of the 2018 Derek Horsey Competition.
2018 Finals Day - Please note change of venue.
This year's Finals Day will be held at Shrigley Hall Golf Club near Macclesfield.
Unfortunately Reddish Vale were unable to offer the customary 'courtesy of the course' to teams that don't normally play there. The Committee felt that it was only fair that all finalists have the chance to familiarise themselves with the course without incuring additional costs. Shrigley Hall were happy to offer the customary 'courtesy of the course' and host our Finals Day. (FINALS) Our thanks go to Macclesfield Golf Club who also offered to host Finals Day,
but who held it more recently (2014).

Handicap Reminder
The MDSL Rules (MDSL Rules) only apply to the League Pairings of any match eg Max Handicap 28. In general the CONGU maximum handicap is 54, so clubs can expect to start seeing 28+ handicaps appearing in the Social Pairings of matches. You may want to discuss with your opponents in advance as to whether this would cause any issues.
